MYLA 2020 Forum – Defeating the UMNO one party state

Another excerpt of my talk at Malaysia Youth Leaders Assembly 2020. Malaysia is undergoing a democratic transition.

Previously the battle for prime ministership was on the floor of the UMNO General Assembly, where 2,500 delegates decided who will be the next PM. But today, each and every one has to go to the public and try to win support from Malaysians, and it will be the 14 million voters who decide on who will run the next government.

It’s a long and slow road to democratisation. Never easy but we as a nation did manage to defeat the UMNO one party state.
