Bukit Bendera MP, Liew Chin Tong (pic) in a press statement at the Parliament building today called on the Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishamudin Tun Hussein to release the book Malaysian Maverick: Mahathir Mohamad in Turbulent Times by Barry Wain with immediate effect.
“The second 60-day period of customs “detention” of the book has ended on 13 March, 2010, I call on the Home Minister to release the book with immediate effect,” he said.
“Will the Ministry let this matter drag on indefinitely? How much longer does the Ministry need to ‘examine’ the book?” he asked.
The book is a political biography of Tun Mahathir Mohamad which was published by Palgrave Macmillan in the UK and was launched in Singapore in December and Indonesia in January. It has been widely acclaimed by reviewers. Former Vice Chancellor of University Malaya, Ungku Aziz calls it “a very fascinating book”.
“It’s about time for Datuk Seri Hisahmuddin Tun Hussein to do the right thing by releasing the book or risk Malaysia becoming the laughing stock of the world yet again,” Liew said.
