MORE than 50 residents from Hong Seng Estate in Jalan Mount Erskine here came together to clean up their residential area in a concerted effort to wipe out the dengue menace.
Committee members from Pepper Estate, Rifle Range, Fettes Park and Mount Erskine as well as the Pulau Tikus Voluntary Fire Brigade Team personnel were also roped in to help.
“Unlike previous years, the people this time around came out in droves to help,” Kebun Bungah assemblyman Jason Ong said.
He said the clean-up programme was a timely move as Hong Seng Estate, which has about 600 households, is a dengue-prone area.
He added that several fire extinguishers would also be stored at the residential area for the residents to use in the event of an emergency.
A total of 15 fire extinguishers have been distributed so far.
“We will also be fixing a steel cage which will be used to store these extinguishers for the residents’ needs,” he said.
Ong said more than RM40,000 had been allocated for the Hong Seng Estate to repair the roads and drainage system in the area.
Also present at the event was Bukit Bendera member of parliament, Liew Chin Tong.
