The Democratic Action Party (DAP) of Malaysia would like to congratulate the African National Congress (ANC) on the occasion of the Party’s centennial celebration.
The ANC was born at a time when it was inconceivable to imagine the rainbow nation that South Africa is today. The Party and its leaders had in the past century faced the worst of discriminatory and oppressive political regimes.
The ANC faced mammoth political hegemony and yet it persevered because of its noble vision of liberating the nation from the grip of injustice and the poison of racism. The victory of the ANC led by Mr. Nelson Mandela in 1994 was a victory shared across the world as a victory against racism and a triumph against an oppressive regime. Today Mr. Mandela is honoured by the global community as a living icon of democracy and freedom.
The DAP and the ANC not only share common social democratic values but also share the experience of imprisonment, and the need to sacrifice lives and freedom in our struggle against injustice and racism.
Thus, DAP joins our fellow social democrats in the ANC on this joyous occasion with a renewed solidarity. We wish the best for the ANC, may you continue to be a strong beacon of democracy, freedom and solidarity in our world.
