Solidarity with the people of Palestine
Remarks at the rally outside the embassy of United States of America by DAP National Political Education Director and MP for Kluang Liew Chin Tong in Kuala Lumpur on 15th December 2017
On behalf of the DAP, we are here to express our solidarity with the people of Palestine and oppose the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital by the Donald Trump administration.
The unilateral announcement by the Donald Trump administration to back Israel on its claim to Jerusalem is set to inflame the region. Jerusalem belongs to the Palestinians and is also the holy site of the al-Aqsa Mosque.
We stand with the Palestinians who are victims of global injustice. We are in solidarity with the people of Palestine because this is a global humanitarian concern and not just the concern of any particular religion.
The move by the Donald Trump administration is very dangerous. Donald Trump is being investigated by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III on the link between his campaign and Russian influence. As he is under pressure domestically, Trump is using the “wag the dog” strategy to lit up the Middle East with the aim of diverting American public attention away.
Malaysia and other Asian nations must be very concerned. If Trump can try to inflame the Middle East, he can do the same to Asia if Congress closes in to impeach him. North Korea is a tinderbox in our region.
