I shared with the participants at the conference the challenges and prospects of the Malaysian economy.

I talked about the six engines of Malaysia’s economic growth and highlighted the importance of building a middle-class society within the country.

Malaysia needs to move away from real estate to real sectors that are beyond speculation and financialisation of housing. This is how I see Malaysia, especially Johor, can position ourselves in the global supply chain when sharing my views at the Spotlight on Johor event organised by Affin Hwang Investment Bank.

I urge government policymakers to consider ESG as an opportunity for fostering economic growth rather than a burden. They should be bold in envisioning that, under the influence of geopolitical factors, our economy could experience exponential growth, paving the way for Malaysia’s second economic takeoff.

I define “sustainable future of the iron and steel industry” broadly into three sub themes. 1. Climate change 2. Structural overcapacity 3. Financing the industry As much as possible, the industry and the government should work together to consider incentives for investment that achieve the missions outlined by NIMP.

I spoke about Malaysia’s agency in establishing bilateral relations with China in 1974, which was deemed unconventional back then. I also shared how China and other countries should view Malaysia in the current context.

At the ISIS Malaysia PRAXIS session themed “Cultivating Malaysia’s Semiconductor Ecosystem”, I shared about MITI’s vision for the industry as outlined in the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP 2030).

I participated in the Malaysia Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Industry Fireside Chat, where we discussed NIMP2030 as well as geopolitics and regional economics.

Green transition not only creates new opportunities and markets but also serves as an engine of growth for Malaysia’s economy.

Rethinking our industrial development policies in relations to ESG as we intensity our effort to create a stronger middle class society.
