Visit to Melbourne and Adelaide

The Penang state government delegation comprising of The Chief Minister YAB Lim Guan Eng and key state officials will visiting Australia from 27th September till 2nd October 2010. This official visit will cover two cities mainly Melbourne and Adelaide.

Mr Lim and the delegation will met key officials in Melbourne and Adelaide mainly to seek further collaboration between Penang and the two cities especially on their efforts in heritage conservation, tourism and local government administration. During this visit, The Chief Minister will also meet Malaysian students and Malaysian business community in both cities.

During the first leg of the tour to Melbourne from 26th September till 29th September 2010, the delegation will meet the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Robert Doyle and key Melbourne City Council members as well as pay a courtesy call on the Governor of Victoria. The Chief Minister and the delegation will also have the opportunity to be briefed on the machinery of Melbourne City. Besides that, the delegation will also meet representatives of Vic Urban, Arts Victoria, Tourism Victoria and Australia Urban Systems.

The delegation will then visit Penang’s sister city, Adelaide from the 29th September till 2nd October 2010. The purpose of visiting Adelaide is to strengthen the Penang-Adelaide bilateral sister city relationship, to understand the best practices of the Adelaide’s local government, to learn more about Adelaide’s tram services, heritage conservation and tourism. The delegation will then call upon the Governor of South Australia, His Excellency Kevin Scarce; The Rt Hon The Lord Mayor, Michael Harbison the Premier of South Australia, Mike Rann MP and The Honorable John Rau MP, Minister of Tourism.

Lim will be accompanied by YB Mansor Othman, Deputy Chief Minister I; YB Chow Kon Yeow, State EXCO for Local Government & Enviroment; YB Lim Hock Seng, State EXCO for Telecommunications, Utilities; YB Liew Chin Tong, MP for Bukit Bendera; Cik Hajjah Patahiyah Ismail Council President of Majlis Perbandaran Pulau Pinang; Tuan Haji Mokhtar Mohd Jait, Council President for Majlis Perbandaran Seberang Perai; Puan Maimunah Mohd Sharif, General Manager of World Heritage Office; Miss Ooi Geok Ling, Managing Director of Penang Global Tourism; Dato Dr. Goh Ban Lee, Senior Fellow SERI; Mr Jeffrey Chew, Special Officer to the Chief Minister and 2 officers of Majlis Perbandaran Pulau Pinang.
